Baby Making 101

Well...we got good news on our anniversary! We WILL be starting Clomid and IUI this month! Everything was approved, we signed the paper work, and learned how to do the shot etc.

I have to say that this is VERY involved....I mean...wow....And the chance of having multiples is kinda higher than we'd like. Hubby is worried we will have to move in with our parents and work 3 jobs each just to get through it all. I am exaggerating...but only a little. lol

Let me give you an idea of what is involved...Bear with me!

This is Alternative Baby Making 101...

1. I have to call the office when I have my first full day of my period.

2. Schedule an appointment for blood work and an ultrasound between day 2-5 of the cycle. So pretty much RIGHT away, I will be poked and prodded.

3. Call the answering/voicemail (AKA PRN) service to get results and instructions on when to start meds.

4. Start Clomid ...2 pills once a day from day 5-9 of the cycle. Side effects include hot flashes, headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, nervousness, visual disturbances, vaginal dryness, and ovarian cysts. I've heard that some people are irritable and moody too. It will increase the rate of twins approx. 10%!!!

5. Check the PRN for instructions on when to return for more blood work and another ultrasound.

6. Take a LH kit (Ovulation kit) around day 11 until you get a color change. Then call them immediately with a color change.

7. When instructed, I get the HCG shot between 8-10PM.

8. Then we get our intercourse/ IUI instructions from the office. Hubby goes in, they "wash" his semen, then it's my turn to get it inserted into my uterus through a needle/catheter thing.

9. I have to do a progesterone support thing. It looks like a tampon and it has a liquid in it. It helps seal the wall or something. Not sure...

10. THEN we have to wait 2 whole weeks before going to see if we got pregnant. I cannot take home pregnancy test because of the HCG shot. But I will know for sure because they will do a blood test.

If it works, I'm preggo! If not, then we try to figure out why it didn't work and go from there.

I should be getting my meds on Friday through the mail along with the shot and the tampon tube full of goo.

It's been so surreal. I wonder when it's officially going to hit me.

Probably not until I'm holding a crying baby...lol

OK let's hope I get with the program before then...but denial can be a frenemy (friend and enemy)....
